iOS 4.2 goes gold

Apple developers have received the final edition of Apple’s iOS 4.2 upgrade for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices, known as the ‘Gold Master’ copy.
Releasing the Gold Master version of iOS 4.2 is the final step in the journey to the general release of the software, and indicates that the final testing is complete and that the upgrade is almost ready to ship to end customers.
iOS 4.2 is a landmark release for many reasons, primarily for iPad
Owners: upgrading to the latest version of the in-built operating system will allow users of Apple’s popular tablet to access the new features that launched with the iPhone 4, including the ability to multi-task between apps and run third-party apps in the background along with the ability to organise packages into folders.
The newest iOS release also brings support for AirPlay, Apple’s audio streaming format, allowing audio from the iPod software or the YouTube application to be streamed to compatible local devices such as an AV receiver or stereo.
Increased parental control is another big feature for the upgrade, allowing parents to lock access to the purchasing and deleting of apps, location information, and set ratings for what music, films, and TV shows can be carefully downloaded.
Lastly, the update is set to bring wireless printing to the iPad, a feature that many have missed from what Apple positions as a sensible replacement to a netbook or other ultra-portable device.
The release of the Gold Master version specifies that iOS 4.2 will be released soon, even though there is no official time scale just yet.
Windows Phones: Publishers Surprisingly Eager to Get Apps on WP7

Here’s a reason not to abandon Windows Phone 7: A surprising amount of publishers and advertisers are eager to build new applications for Microsoft’s mobile platform.
That’s right; the original kid in town has the same amount of publishers working on mobile apps for 2011 as the Apple iPad, according to a new survey of 500 app developers, publishers and advertisers conducted by mobile ad company Millennial Media.
With so much potential revenue expected from mobile apps and a varied group of mobile platforms to choose from, the tartlet is cut into many slices with no mobile platform dominating the field, according to the survey. This open-mindedness can only benefit Microsoft as it tries to assert itself in the mobile market.
Of the 500 respondents from industries such as entertainment, technology, media and retail, 20 percent say they will develop new apps for WP7 next year. The iPad also drew 20 percent of developer interest.
With 29 percent of the pot, Google’s Android was the survey’s big winner and all roads lead to explosive app development on Android next year. RIM garnered 12 percent of developer interest, the same as last year. The iPhone saw a drop from 30 percent to 8 percent in app development interest from 2009 to 2010, but that is because everyone and their brother already has their latest app on the iPhone.
The 20 percent interest in Windows Phone 7 should be heartening news for Microsoft. WP7 is a mobile rebirth, and Microsoft needs as many apps as possible to compete with Android phones and the iPhone, which has access to 250,000 apps in Apple’s App Store.

It does come with a snag: “The growth rate is expected to be slow in 2010 due to the recession and prices for these chargers being high as compared to conventional chargers,” declares F&S. “Moreover, awareness levels are still low and only a select few customers prefer such products.” The reason? Portable electronics may be trendy, but attentiveness of green chargers, still a somewhat recent concept, is still low. Nonetheless, as alertness of green chargers made for mobile gadgets and laptops grows, so will adoption.
