PostHeaderIcon Nokia Overthrows Mango Based Smartphone Delay Speculations

Finnish mobile giant Nokia has thrashed all the reports that stated that the company was delaying the launch of its first ever Windows Phone 7 Mango powered handset till 2012.

It seems like it is almost inevitable on the part of the company to lag behind its Asian rivals HTC and Samsung, who are also planning to launch their own offerings powered by the WP7 Mango platform pretty soon.

The initial strategy adopted by Nokia was to beat everyone in the race, and come up with the first ever WP7 Mango handset, thus attracting the maximum attention possible – a strategy, which the company could never implement on.

Asia’s second largest smartphone maker HTC has already unveiled its first handset running on the Mango, and so did Japan based Fujitsu.

Having lost the first chance to take a lead over the rivals, the second best strategy for the company was perhaps to launch the handset during the holiday shopping season. But, adding more to the woes of the company even that also seems quite unlikely now – at least that’s what the rumors around the market are pointing towards.

The company has stuck to its earlier stand and denied all these reports quite furiously. According to Nokia, it is “increasingly confident” about launching the product in the running year only.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung to Introduce Smartphone with Bendable Touch Screen in 2012

Samsung is planning to launch a flexible smartphone in 2012, which will come with a bendable AMOLED touch screen.

According to an article on The Telegraph, the Samsung Galaxy Skin will feature a large and bright AMOLED skin which will be able to fold like a wristwatch.

The screen, made up of a plastic polyimide substrate instead of glass, consumes low amounts of energy and is extremely strong.

The phone, developed by  Professor Haeseong Jee and Jye Yeon You, has been built using graphene, which is said to be the strongest material on Earth; almost 200 times stronger than steel.

The Galaxy Skin will also feature a 800×480 flexible AMOLED screen, 1 GB of RAM, a 1.2 Ghz processor and a 8MP camera. Users of the device can use it as a wrist watch, mouse or clock. This versatility should make the new product a popular one with a wide variety of people.

Interestingly, Samsung plans to power the phone with Android Jelly Bean, which will be launched after the long awaited Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device may also be powered by a new version of Android called Android Flexy.

PostHeaderIcon HTC Hosts Press Event and Launch Party; Most Likely to Release HTC Runnymede with Beats Audio

HTC has scheduled a huge launch event on October 6 in London to possibly introduce the first HTC Beats Audio smartphones.

Beats, a company partly owned by rapper/producer Dr.Dre, makes speakers and headphones that give studio quality sound. HTC acquired a huge stake in the company worth $300 million and promised to launch Beats powered smartphones.

Tech blog Slashgear has received an invitation for the press event to be followed by a launch party which will be open to the public.

The event, which will take place at The Roundhouse in Camden, London, will include some surprise performances by some of the hottest music artists around. The event promises to be lots of fun.

In the invite, HTC did not mentioned the name of the device it is launching, but a Beats audio headphone is shown. Most likely, HTC will be launching the HTC Runnymede, aka the HTC Bass, which was leaked in a video last week.

The device will come heavily integrated with the Beats Audio technology and will also come with special Beats headphones for amazing sound.

PostHeaderIcon Facebook iPad App Finally Coming at iPhone 5 Press Event?

It’s difficult to imagine the impending Apple press event being any more anticipated, but if the recent rumours are correct, it’s going to be much more than the iPhone 5 on display! According to both Mashable and Robert Scoble, Facebook will also be present and will launch their long-awaited iPad app.

The native tablet application has apparently been ready since May, at a time when TechCrunch discovered it was actually hidden inside the existing iPhone app’s code, and all that was needed was a jailbroken device to unlock it. So why has it been delayed if it’s already done?

We’ll never know all the facts, but former Facebook engineer Jeff Verkoeyen has spilled at least some of the beans on his blog, citing a spat between Apple and Facebook as the main problem. Mr. Verkoeyen is a trustworthy source too, seeing as he actually built the Facebook iPad app, then left the company for Google after its launch was continually delayed.

Facebook were annoyed with Apple after they included Facebook Connect in their iTunes-driven Ping social network without consulting them first, and the relationship became even more strained after it was announced that Twitter would be integrated into iOS 5. Pundits are now hypothesizing that Apple and Facebook now realize they have a common enemy – Google – and need to join forces to combat them.

In addition to the iPad app, Facebook could also announce a dedicated iOS application store and a completely updated iPhone app too. Get ready for October, as it’s going to be a huge month for mobile fans!

PostHeaderIcon ZTE’s Mango Device Makes its Debut

ZTE was announced as a new supporter of Windows Phone 7 when Mango got its ‘VIP preview’ back in May, but aside from an unidentified ZTE device spotted during Microsoft’s developer conference in July, the Chinese manufacturer has been quiet on all things Mango flavoured.

Until, that is, an expo event in China, where a phone codenamed Tania has been snapped and detailed. Boasting a large 4.3-inch touchscreen with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, the phone’s design is slightly reminiscent of the ZTE Skate/Orange Monte Carlo, although here the ‘Windows’, ‘Back’ and ‘Search’ keys are touch sensitive rather than hardware based buttons seen on the Skate.

As with other Windows Phone 7 devices, the Tania has a 1GHz processor, a 5 megapixel camera, 512MB of RAM, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. However, the device has been listed as having just 4GB of internal memory, strange when you consider that all other WP7 phones are required to have a minimum of 8GB.

ZTE are known for their competitively priced handsets, so could Tania be the first truly budget Windows Phone 7 Mango phone? It would be quite a coup for it to be priced around the £200-mark on PAYG, especially as there are various Android devices hovering around this price-point.

Speaking to Recombu, ZTE has said the phone has not been officially introduced, and any specifications aren’t final, so perhaps the storage will increase before then. There’s no information on when or where the ZTE Tania will launch though, so we’ll all have to be patient.

PostHeaderIcon HTC Amaze 4G Is Enhanced Version Of Sensation

T-Mobile has announced the arrival of the Amaze 4G, a 4.3-inch smartphone that looks like a slightly different Sensation – as it comes with a faster SoC and 4G connectivity (the Sensation 4G is an altogether different phone).

According to mobile blog Cellphonesignal, the handset packs a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, an eight megapixel rear camera and an additional front-facing one.

It wil be a direct replacement for the existing myTouch 4G and will run the bog standard HTC Sense user interface v3.5 on top of Android OS 2.3.5 Gingerbread, rather than any additional T-Mobile skin.

As with the Sensation, the Amaze 4G will feature a 4.3-inch qHD display (960×540 pixels), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a microSD card slot and HSPA+ with speeds of up to 42Mbps – although real life speeds are likely to be significantly less.

We think it is unlikely that the HTC Amaze 4G smartphone will ever be launched in the UK, while US customers can expect it to be launched around the 12th of October. The handset – which unfortunately doesn’t come with HTC’s Beats Audio feature – will cost $260 following a $50 mail in rebate.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung Outs New Galaxy Model Called S II HD With Retina Display

Samsung has launched a new version of the Galaxy S II called the Galaxy S II HD LTE which packs a massive 4.65-inch HD ready Super AMOLED HD display, matching Apple’s Retina Display pixel density.

The phone is a smaller and more importantly, more pocket-sized version of the Galaxy Note, albeit without the Stylus. It sports LTE and a dual core 1.5GHz SoC (unlikely to be a new version of Exynos, more like a new Qualcomm Snapdragon model).

The Galaxy S II HD also features 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, a microSD card slot, GSM/HSPA+, an eight megapixel camera with full HD recording and a two megapixel front-facing camera, a 1850mAh battery and is only 9.5mm thick.

A second version of the phone called the Galaxy S II LTE features a smaller 4.5-inch WVGA screen instead of the HD ready one and only adds to the confusion surrounding Samsung’s Galaxy line up.

The S II HD LTE will go on sale at SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ in South Korea but there are no plans to bring them to US or Europe at the moment.

The Galaxy Note will be launched in the UK before the end of the year according to the latest rumours, with one online retailer listing the device for as much as £600. We suspect that the S II HD will go for a tad less than that.
