Next iPhone Could Have “Liquid Metal” Case

Rumours are circulating the web suggesting that Apple may be making some big changes to the iPhone’s design with its next handset.
Korean website etnews has reported that the next iPhone iteration could have a “liquid metal” casing, a design feature that several manufacturers are also said to be considering.
The casing, which is made from a mixture of metals such as zirconium, titanium, nickel and copper, will have a smooth, sleek feel to it and is said to be as light as plastic, enabling designers to produce less-weighty handsets. Should Apple incorporate the new technology, it will mark a significant change to the glass-covered iPhone4 and 4S, both of which have been found to be susceptible to damage.
Apple has remained tight-lipped with regards to a launch date for the much vaunted device, so it could be some time before this speculation is confirmed or dismissed. However, with Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled for June and the event being tipped as a possible showcase venue for the iPhone 5, the wait might not be as long as anticipated.
HTC One X gets new Android update
HTC has released the first update for its new flagship smartphone – One X (Endeavor). The new Android 4.0 Build 1.28, which is being pushed over-the-air, brings number of fixes for the One X smartphone while improving its battery life. This update has been rolled out for the HTC One X devices that shipped with Build 1.26 or 1.27 currently in European countries.
The early adopters of HTC One X did raise some concerns about the battery life despite the fact that the phone carries a massive 1800 mAh battery. The new Android build 1.28 for the One X brings number of battery improvements however one of the power control app related issue remains unsolved.

XDA-Developer forum noted that the NvCPLSvc.apk app has been placed in a wrong folder by mistake which is cited as the main reason of fast consumption of battery. The developers also released a redesigned power control app to be placed in the correct folder to gain about 20 per cent battery life improvement.
The bunch of improvements with the build 1.28 includes fix for the screen glitch issue that number of early One X buyers faced. Along with better Ice Cream Sandwich detection, the update also fixes Beats audio performance that used to skip tunes.

However, number of issues still not fixed includes NvCPLSvc.apk app placed in the same wrong folder instead of correct folder. Also, Force GPU (which helps improve performance of applications) doesn’t work and the build still uses old 2.6.x.x Kernel.
Considering the fact that HTC One X was released for Europe and India region, we can expect the Android 4.0 Build 1.28 update for India based One X owners soon.
HTC One X smartphone comes with massive 4.7-inch SLCD2 touchscreen display and houses a quad-core 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 mobile processor. Featuring on-board 32 GB memory, the smartphone has a great 8 megapixel camera and practically everything usually found in a high-end smartphone. Sporting a 1800 mAh battery, the HTC One X is available in India’s retail market for about Rs 37,500.

Designer Creates Concept Phone with Analogue Clock

Many smartphones have been following the standard black slab design format, but not all are sticking to that …
Designer Jamie Hayon has come up with a concept phone that couples a large display with a unique feature – an analogue clock. Sitting neatly in the top left corner of the handset’s white casing, the timepiece brings an unusual and eye-catching feature to a phone without dominating it and making it look gimmicky.
There are other over-sized features such as a large camera lense and ball-bearing style buttons that are very different to the low-key stylings of most modern handsets. However, the whole package still manages to look elegant and doesn’t appear to detract from the main smartphone functions of the device.
It’s only a concept for now, designed on behalf of the International Interior Design Association, but with manufacturers coming up with concepts that involve high-end technology, like Google’s Glass Project, it’s interesting to see older technology brought into smartphone design too.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 review

Unfamiliar with BlackBerry devices, we gave Carl a BlackBerry Bold 9790 and PlayBook 2.0 to experience for one week. As a devoted Android user, did BlackBerry’s latest devices and OS upgrades tick the right boxes for a man who lives off Ice Cream Sandwich?
Those who know me well enough would agree that they’ve never seen me own a BlackBerry or Apple iPhone. In my view, why eat rotten fruit, when you can eat delicious Ice Cream Sandwiches all day? So when I was presented the opportunity to test out the BlackBerry Bold 9790 mobile phone, I felt uncomfortable with the thought of leaving my familiar Android device at home for BlackBerry devices that were alien to me. I am however a firm believer that you shouldn’t never judge a book by its cover. Therefore, I spent a week with this foreign object by my side, coupled with a BlackBerry PlayBook pre-installed with 2.0.
Now the first thing that you notice about any phone is its design. As far as smartphones go, the Bold 9790 is quite good looking. It has the usual curved look, but has one of the best keyboards that I have seen so far attached to it and the screen is the right proportion for the size of the phone. If the touchscreen was any bigger, the keyboard would be too small, and if it were any smaller, well it would be pretty useless as a touchscreen all together.
When you start to use the Bold 9790, it has a nice bit of style about it. It runs very well on BB7, the latest OS from BlackBerry. My past criticisms of BlackBerry seemed to vanquish as I swiped through a sharper user interface that was responsive and flowed. Certainly better than some of the older BlackBerrys that I have played with in the past.
As you would expect on any BlackBerry, with the Bold 9790 you get the unique BlackBerry services, such as Messenger, World. One feature I love is that BlackBerry App World now has thousands of Google Play apps integrated into its store. This doesn’t give you access to every single Android app, but I can imagine how previous BlackBerry users were disgruntled with envy as their Android amigos were getting the best games long before BlackBerry could. Definitely means you can have a lot more fun on the Bold 9790.
Internet browsing on the Bold 9790 is next to none. The handset really has impressed me when surfing the web is concerned. The speed that the phone fully loads a web page, was sometimes faster than my desktop computer. This was in an area that 3G was particularly strong, but still, wow.
The actual usability of the Bold 9790, comes into its own when used with the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now using the upgraded 2.0 OS, the ‘BlackBerry Bridge’ app allows you to connect your Bold 9790 up to your PlayBook and use it as a controller. You can easily mirror images and other items that you have on the Bold 9790 straight over to the PlayBook which is great to allow for a streamlined display of the handsets contents.
So, a week with the BlackBerry Bold 9790 went a lot better than expected. The handset shows off how far BlackBerrys have come since the first few versions. I found BB7 was really useful throughout my day to day usage and could be a realistic contender against the other operating systems.
Why not check out our latest BlackBerry PlayBook deals. Alternatively, you can get the BlackBerry PlayBook as a free gift.
Google Chrome for Android gets new desktop like features
Google has released Chrome for Android beta build with a new set of desktop like features. Google has added support for about 31 languages in the countries where Google Play is accessible by default. Chrome for Android beta also has a desktop view option and one can add bookmarks to the speed dials.
Google Chrome for Android beta is now officially available in more countries. The mobile browser supports 31 more international languages to load the text properly. Also, if you aren’t comfortable with the mobile web page, you can choose the desktop version of the website.

Favorite website bookmarks can be anchored to the speed dial of the homescreen of Chrome. If your WiFi setup has a proxy, then you can also configure the proxy settings for Chrome mobile browser.

The web browser can also be configured to open native apps for web links such as YouTube app for videos.
Chrome for Android beta works only on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich devices and is thereby limited only to select devices.
Don’t Worry, Samsung Says the Galaxy S III Really is Coming on 3 May

When Samsung started distributing invitations to its special event in London on 3 May, almost everyone assumed it was to be for the long-awaited Galaxy S III smartphone, however, as the invite merely said ‘come and meet the next Galaxy,’ there was a tiny, tiny chance it would be for a new tablet or some other Galaxy phone.
While that would be an incredibly cruel trick to play, the doubt was probably there in the back of everyone’s minds. Thankfully though, a source at Samsung has spoken to TheVerge and said that yes, the new Galaxy S III will be revealed during the event.
Almost nothing at all is known about Samsung’s new flagship Android phone, not even its official name, but it’s rumoured to feature a quad-core processor – possibly Samsung’s own Exynos chip – a big screen with a high definition resolution and a swanky chassis design.
Others are warning that the phone may not be as incredible as we all hope it will be, suggesting it’s an incremental update over the S II, much like the iPhone 4S was to the iPhone 4. There’s even talk that a variant will turn out to be Samsung’s official Olympic phone, which will be given to athletes and then sold as a limited run around the world.
There’s now exactly two weeks to go until we find out what the real story is, as Samsung’s big event starts at 7pm on 3 May.
