Apple iPhone 5 : Round up of 2012’s biggest release
It’s been a while since we’ve posted about the Apple iPhone 5. After months of anticipation and excitement across 2011, we were presented the iPhone 4S; an upgrade of the Apple iPhone 4 with more muscle inside its A5 processor chip and more knowledge through personal assistant Siri. Even though the upgrades were necessary, Apple fans couldn’t help but feel slightly disheartened. We love it when Apple releases something completely new that “Changes everything. Again”. With leading brands releasing the Samsung Galaxy S3, Sony Xperia S & the Nokia Lumia 900, 2012 is the year for Apple to step up and release the true next generation smartphone: The Apple iPhone 5.
As all our old blogs relate to the 4S, we thought it was time to blow away the cobwebs, delve deep into the rumour mill and bring you the latest designs, specifications and more on everything iPhone 5.
New design – Apple iPhone 5
A new design is possibly the most anticipated feature expected for the iPhone 5. The iPhone 4 and 4s have stylish designs but all fashions change with time. iPhone enthusiasts want to own something that looks new, fresh and distinctly different from past iPhone models. One feature that would separate the Apple iPhone 5 from its range is a new screen size. It’s a quick win for Apple as their standard 3.5 inch display is towered by the Samsung Galaxy S2’s 4.3 inch screen. Would a larger screen on the iPhone affect sales of their iPad range? This could be the reason for sustaining the iPhone’s original size. Will the iPhone 5 have a new shape? Here’s our three favourite concept designs below..

We’re certain the iPhone 5 will host a new look design.

New Name or just iPhone 5?
The strangest rumour we’ve heard so far is that the device will be named the iPhone SJ, in memory of the late Steve Jobs. This is the last iPhone which Jobs had an input into the design and features of the device. Although it seems a fitting tribute to the icon who retransformed the fortunes of Apple with his innovation and industry changing ideas, we think there’s only a moderate chance the iPhone 5 will be named the iPhone SJ

UK release date?
One of the safest guarantees is that the iPhone 5 will in our hands by October 2012. It’s more than likely the product would also be available within 10 days of announcement. For a company that loves to throw surprises and spontaneity, is an October release date too predictable? Apple would certainly please a large fan base if they released the iPhone 5 ahead of the date cited by many blogs. The reasoning for an iPhone 5 release towards the end of 2012, is to allow time for the iPhone 4S to sell enough units. With Sony and Samsung releasing their next generation smartphones in the spring and summer, we believe Apple are more likely to unveil their latest addition to the family within their older June/July iPhone release date format. With Android OS racking up the largest share of users on any platform, the last thing Apple needs is to give the Galaxy S3 and Sony Xperia S a head start. We’re confident that the iPhone 5 will be released in 2012 and hoping for a summer release.

Nokia Ace in Line for Massive Marketing Push Ahead of US Launch

They’ll be hoping that it doesn’t turn out to be a Flush, but the companies behind the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 (aka Nokia Ace) are pushing the new smartphone in a major advertising campaign – reportedly spending in the region of $100 million ahead of its State-side launch in March.
It’s expected that Microsoft and Nokia, joint partners in the new Windows Phone initiative, will preview at least one device from new range of Lumia phones at CES in Las Vegas next week. The specs are looking quite impressive too, with the Lumia 900 boasting a 1.4 GHz processor, a 4.3-inch WVGA screen as well as an 8 megapixel camera. If the initial signs are anything to go on, this piece of hardware will be one of the stars of the CES show – a good omen for the next stage of the campaign.
Microsoft has signalled its intent to push the Lumia 900 as a “hero” device with major US network AT&T, who are to heavily push the phone above all others in its advertising and retail outlets. A large-scale TV and press campaign will also launch for the Nokia Ace as part of an aggressive drive to rekindle the fortunes of both Nokia and Windows Phone.
Such a deal with AT&T, a major company whose support could be the difference between life and death for any new range of phones, is bound to have made up the bulk of the big-money investment; it remains to be seen whether the marketing spend will have the desired effect.
HTC, Samsung to Release LTE Windows Phone Handsets

HTC and Samsung will be launching Windows Phone handsets with the capability to handle the latest LTE technology very soon. Both smartphone manufacturing giants are leading partners of Windows Phone after Nokia.
The soon-to-be launched devices will run a pre-Tango build that supports LTE, reported The Verge.
The report further discloses the codename of the devices. The Samsung device is codenamed Mandel and HTC model is codenamed Radiant. The Samsung device is expected to have a large touchscreen.
Both devices will be made available in early 2012 around the same time Nokia will launch its Windows Phone in the US.
The LTE devices will be powered by Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and may have a Tango update that support low end phones and the Apollo update to support high end handsets will surface during the fourth quarter of 2012. This information was given outthrough an alleged leak of Microsoft’s 2012 Windows Phone roadmap.
LTE is a very important feature which is often desired by users. Tech journalists often regard this as a deciding factor. So definitely this is good news for Windows Phone which needs a strong push in this highly comparative market.
Top 5 mobile trends of 2011 in India
2011 was a defining year in many ways for the mobile industry. Here is a look at the year gone by to see which trend emerged in that year and will continue in the new year.

Dual SIM
Dual SIM is nothing new. The feature catapulted Indian brands to the main stream of mobile phone industry in 2009-10. While in the past two years, it was the domain of the Indian brands, MNC brands like Nokia, Samsung and Motorola realised the potential and introduced their dual SIM offerings in 2011 which earned them back some lost market share.
Dual SIM based Nokia C and X series of feature phones mostly became popular, boosting the shipments of the Finnish handset manufacturer. Samsung also consolidated its feature phone market share through its handsets like Chat, Star and Champ.
Spice took the concept to the next level by introducing first Dual SIM Android phone (Mi270) in India. Though the phone did not meet much success probably because it did not support 3G and was low on quality, it did however manage to create a trend – dual SIM Android phones.
Motorola too come out with Android based Miletone XT 800 with CDMA and GSM support and was soon followed by Micromax Superfone Lite A75 and Spice Mi350n. Recently even Samsung announced its dual SIM Android smartphones – Galaxy Y Duos and Y Pro Duos.
It will be wrong to say that the segment is already popular, but it will eventually acquire a huge market share.

Nokia Announces Belle Update Schedule, Drops Symbian Name
Nokia has combined the announcement of the Belle software update with the news they’ve dropped the Symbian name. A post published on their official Conversations blog simply says the ‘all new Nokia Belle’ is coming soon, adding in brackets ‘previously Symbian Belle’ to clarify the name change.
Striking the Symbian name from the software is another in a line of re-branding efforts from Nokia, following their adoption of Windows Phone 7 as their primary smartphone operating system. Earlier in the year, they also removed the Ovi name from their application store, navigation software and other services.
No reason has been given for the change, or an indication as to whether the name will live on elsewhere, but an analyst told PCWorld.com the move could be because Nokia considers its own name to be a stronger brand, and a reaction to the drop in Symbian device sales.
Nokia Belle, although already officially announced, has now been given a release schedule. It’s expected to appear on the N8, C7, C6-01, E6, X7 and the Nokia Oro as an over-the-air update in February 2012, however brand new N8, C7 and C6-01 phones will start shipping with the update already applied very soon.
February does seem a while away for some software already applied on the Nokia 700, 701 and 603, but the inclusion of more homescreens, improved widgets and a other tweaks should make it worth the wait.
